A visual platform, held to the standard of code.
Five years on Bubble. The last two and a half working across a production lending platform: 6,000+ users, about 500k workload units a day, four markets. I know exactly what Bubble is good for, and exactly where to route around it.
What I build on it
- Money paths. Stripe intents, Checkout and SEPA; virtual IBAN transfers; payouts and refunds; Buckaroo mandates. All through the API Connector, with webhook handlers that reconcile payments to invoices.
- Credit decisions. Schufa and CRIF processing, probability-of-default mapping, underwriting notifications, a credit-report import page.
- Compliance records. The EIF eligibility system: a record per deal frozen at approval, four checks, recompute metadata, a backoffice tab, a backfill across every live deal.
- Documents and email. DocuGenerate templates with conditional rendering; Postmark templates in several languages; reminder ladders for three markets.
- Integrations. Zapier and Pipedrive (approved for Zapier's public listing), HubSpot sync with backfills, AGiCAP, PostHog, Nomos, Google Maps.
- Backoffice tooling. Project pages, reward dashboards, migration-aware organisation switching, feature toggles per organisation.
How I keep it correct
- Route around the platform when correctness demands it. Bubble's native request parser can't reliably preserve mixed-case webhook fields, so signature verification gets a raw-body proxy. Cryptographic work runs in server scripts, not workflow conditions.
- Idempotency over UI guards. A double-click once split a parent project twice and corrupted one leg. The fix was a guard. The lesson was idempotent workflows, which I now build first.
- QA against production data. Automated testing on Bubble was judged impractical by the team, so I built the test infrastructure instead: test users, mock bureau data, validation docs, a platform-wide audit of legacy status usage before a checkout rebuild. I was the named validator on fixes before release.
- Reconcile with code. Python scripts to prove that splits sum back to the original, that fee formulas hold across every live project, that credit records exist where they should.
- Releases. Scheduled early-morning releases, hotfixes with a named owner, first engineer in the team's formal review rotation, and documentation others rely on.
By the numbers
Carrying it through a migration
In 2026 the platform moved to Google Cloud. A rebuild only works if someone can say, precisely, how the old system behaves. That was my role.
- Found that projects created on the new platform never set a customer link the legacy app reads in 289 places, and closed the gap
- Traced a project that bypassed the new checkout redirect because it had no access record, and proposed a single-workflow fallback
- Diagnosed webhooks rerouted to the new platform that had left two sources of truth
- Aligned fee fields and invoice timing so finance saw one set of numbers
- Built the lead-notification pipeline so installers who had moved kept receiving their leads: 12 organisations, 90 leads
- Built the migration banner and the organisation-switching flow for users on both platforms
- Wrote the new platform's credit-scoring and notification tickets from the legacy behaviour
Team role
Named as the platform-expertise contact in the engineering onboarding plan. Ran pairing sessions for the engineering lead and every engineer who joined in 2025. First in the review rotation. Inherited the installer incentive system, with its monthly tier locking, credit notes and invoicing workflows, when its builder left.
Earlier Bubble work
Fence
Asset-backed finance operations platform for lenders. Data model, workflows, capital and payment-schedule calculations, dashboard front end. The company later raised a $20M Series A and administers $1.5B in assets.
Koncile.ai
Document-intelligence platform. The Bubble front end and the review and validation flows over an AWS Textract extraction pipeline.
Compminer
Anonymous compensation benchmarking: data model, survey collection, scoring, comparison charts.
Six apps in parallel
A marketplace with Stripe Connect split payments, escrow milestones and DocuSign. A five-channel inventory sync across Shopify, Amazon, eBay, Facebook Marketplace and Mercari. An image-based pest-count app on a Xano backend. Two more.
Freelance
A ten-month fullstack engagement for a US client, consolidating several apps into one, Bulk Create API support, a QA audit delivered as a written report.
